The Port Governance Agency participated in the annual conference of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), held in Geneva. The event brought together representatives of international organizations, ports, and port operators from Asia, Latin America, Europe, and Africa, as well as transport and logistics experts, with the aim of jointly exploring strategies to facilitate and accelerate digitalization and energy transition in the port sector.
During the panel discussion titled “Future Ready Ports: Digital and Energy Transition Strategies”, it was particularly emphasized that port modernization is a key prerequisite for strengthening resilience in the face of dynamic global trade flows and economic shifts. Ports were recognized as strategic nodes of global supply chains and significant energy consumers, making their transition to sustainable and renewable energy sources essential for achieving green objectives.
Special focus was placed on digital transformation, as modern technologies enable more efficient infrastructure management, timely risk detection, and faster and more precise decision-making, thereby enhancing the competitiveness and productivity of the port sector.
Panel participants discussed the challenges accompanying digital and energy transitions, investment opportunities in infrastructure and technology, and the role of national policies and international cooperation in advancing the decarbonization of port operations.
It was concluded that the exchange of experience and best practices among countries represents an important step toward shaping effective strategies for sustainability and the future development of ports.
