The kick-off meeting of the BREEZE – Berth Electricity for Zero Emission in Ports project was held in Hamburg, officially marking the beginning of its implementation within the Interreg Europe programme. The Port Governance Agency is participating in the project as an IPA partner, joining the collective efforts to enhance energy efficiency and reduce emissions in the port sector.
The BREEZE project brings together nine partners from eight European countries and will run for four years. Its core objective is to support the introduction and broader use of Onshore Power Supply (OPS) systems in European ports. By enabling ships to connect to the electrical grid while docked, instead of using fossil fuels, the project aims to significantly reduce harmful gas emissions and noise pollution.
Through its participation in BREEZE, the Port Governance Agency is actively contributing to the energy transition and improving the sustainability of port infrastructure in Serbia, in line with European standards and environmental protection goals.
By facilitating experience exchange, study development, and strategic planning, the project will help improve existing policies and shape future ones to ensure that ports are ready for OPS implementation by 2030. This progress represents an important step towards the decarbonisation of waterborne transport and the preservation of the environment.
