The newly expanded capacities of the passenger terminal in Donji Milanovac were officially opened on September 18, in the presence of Uroš Kandić, State Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Youth, Vuk Perović, Director of the Port Governance Agency, and Dragan Popović, Mayor of Majdanpek.
State Secretary Uroš Kandić stated that the doubling of capacities at the international passenger terminal in Donji Milanovac is the largest state investment in tourism infrastructure in the Danube region.
"Donji Milanovac has seen a significant expansion in nautical tourism for years, and the existing capacities became insufficient to accommodate the growing number of river cruisers. With the expansion of the terminal, we have made Donji Milanovac an even more attractive destination for international ships," said Kandić.
He expressed confidence that this investment will further accelerate the growth of nautical tourism throughout the Lower Danube region. "With the construction of marinas in Golubac and Veliko Gradište, this will become one of the most attractive sections of the Danube as it flows through Serbia," he emphasized.
Port Governance Agency Director Vuk Perović highlighted that the doubled capacities of the terminal in Donji Milanovac confirm the increasing appeal of this region for cruise tourists. "The terminal can now accommodate four cruisers simultaneously, instead of the previous two," he noted, adding that domestic contractors were involved in this infrastructure project.
Perović added that by September 1st of this year, Donji Milanovac had recorded 24,000 cruise passengers, a 13% increase compared to the same period last year. “Serbia is currently the third country in the Danube region in terms of the number of cruise tourists. With the intensive development of infrastructure, we are closing in on the leading countries in nautical tourism on the Danube, both in terms of the number of passenger terminals,” he said.
He reminded that the expansion of the terminal capacities in Donji Milanovac is part of the "Sail through Serbia" project. "In the first year of the project, significant results were achieved – three new terminals were opened, and four more are under construction. The first marina in Serbia is being built in Veliko Gradište, and dredging for the future marina in Smederevo is underway. Today's event is an example of good cooperation among state institutions at all levels, ensuring that our country fully capitalizes on its nautical potential and generates revenue from it," Perović concluded.
Municipal President Dragan Popović emphasized that this is a significant day for Donji Milanovac and Majdanpek. "The new terminal capacities will boost tourism in this part of Serbia. I would like to thank the Ministry of Tourism and Youth and the Port Governance Agency for their support in realizing this important project for our municipality," said Popović.
