Representatives of UNCTAD and Dublin Port Company visited the Agency

Representatives of the Port Authority held a meeting with Mark Asaf, Chief of the Human Resources Development Section in UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) and John Moore, Director of Port Authority in Dublin. The topic of the meeting was participation of Serbia in the network of ports that are included in UNCTAD's "Modern Port Management" training programme.

Vuk Perović, stressed that the most important role of the Agency is development, and that such programmes like Modern Port Management give the opportunity to improve the port economy in Serbia. He stated, that in the past four years, the Agency has achieved significant results and among them is and efficient system for charging port and harbor dues. He explained that by charging port and harbor dues, Agency records the quantity of goods transshipped on rivers in Serbia, as well as the number of passengers and dockings. At the moment, Serbia is the second country in Southeastern Europe in terms of quantity of reloaded goods, right after Romania, Perovic added.

Mark Asaf said the training programme, "Modern port management," provides support to the local communities of developing countries, and their efforts to establish effective and competitive port management. The programme gathers public, private and international participants. The exchange of knowledge and professional experience strengthens the development of human resources in port communities, with the ultimate goal- to increase the flow of goods and to stimulate economic development. He emphasized that UNCTAD is the only United Nations organization dealing with all aspects of trade, investment and development.

At the meeting, it was agreed to intensify communication between UNCTAD and Port Governance Agency, in the forthcoming period, in order to discuss possibilities for future cooperation and participation of Serbia in the programme.
